Dr Steve Sutton has nearly two decades of experience working in and researching bushfires and other natural hazards. With a background in archaeology and anthropology, his roles have centred around project management and consultation. As Chief Fire Control Officer in the Northern Territory, Steve was responsible for Territory-wide bushfire control, hazard reduction and bushfire mitigation, and oversaw the operations of the Territory’s volunteer bushfire brigades.
He has conducted research into the psychology of disaster preparation as well as resilience to hazards in remote Indigenous communities. He is an advocate for grass-roots initiatives to weave networks of belonging that foster resilience to climate change and disasters.
